National Book Award (1950-2006)
The National Book Awards were first given in 1950 to enhance the public's awareness of exceptional books written by fellow Americans, and to increase the popularity of reading in general. The awards are now given annually to recognize achievements in four genres: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and young people's literature.
Click on the title to read a short summary of the book, and to place a hold.
The number in parentheses after each book is the year in which it was awarded the National Book Award.
