Every member library now has access to Books In Print Professional online, through funding from Central Library Development Aid. If purchased in print this would annually cost each library over $1,200. Staff involved in material selection, reference and/or public services should attend this training to know how save time and money by getting full functionality from this professional resource.This workshop will cover:
· Using Bowkers Books in Print Professional http://www.booksinprint.com/bip/, a bibliographic database of over 5.6 million in-print, out-of-print, forthcoming, book, audio, and video titles.
- Using the online features of Advanced Search, Browse, Book Reviews, Book Awards, Best-Sellers, Media Mentions, Items in Series, Children's Room, and BIP Alert (an integrated electronic alerting service for favorite searches).
- Finding additional details about titles, including full-text reviews from 15 respected, professional sources such as Booklist, Publishers Weekly, and Library Journal
- Comparison shopping and inventory counts from up to 25 distributors & preparing selections for export
· Overview of Patron Books in Print features

Professional Development
The Annual Report Workshop for New Directors will be offered three times in 2007. Designed for Directors who are new to submitting a NYS Annual Report online with Bibliostat software. The workshop is hands-on so space is very limited. You will actually be entering your library data, so bring all data to be entered. This workshop will cover:
· Logging onto the system
· Entering your data
· Dealing with edit checks
· Writing State and Federal notes
· Submitting

Resource Sharing & Millennium
Going Pro The MHLS online catalog will be going pro! We will be installing Innovative's new search interface, Webpac Pro on December 28th. Webpac Pro uses Right Results technology, a weighted search strategy that will bring patrons to the material that they are looking for more efficiently. A detailed explanation of Webpac Pro has been sent to each library. Marketing, Advocacy & Funding
New Yorkers for Better Libraries (NYLIBS-PAC) is a political action committee formed in 2003 by New York library advocates who believe that increased state aid for libraries and library systems is essential so that library and information services can be sustained and improved for the people of New York. The mission of NYLIBS-PAC is to provide financial support to decision makers who are in a position to effectively champion libraries. NYLIBS-PAC activities focus on fundraising and making contributions to those who have actively supported increased state aid to libraries and library systems. So far, more than 140 library supporters have contributed to NYLIBS-PAC. NYLIBS-PAC's mission does not include conducting advocacy campaigns, employing lobbyists, or prioritizing among library bills. NYLIBS-PAC is not affiliated with any other organizations and maintains cordial and beneficial relations with all segments of the library community in New York State. Personal and corporate contributions to NYLIBS-PAC are welcome. Please send them to New Yorkers for Better Libraries, PO Box 795, Canton, NY 13617. Youth Services
The next meeting of the Columbia-Greene-Ulster Youth Services Staff will be on Monday, January 22nd from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Palenville Branch of the Catskill Public Library. Attendees will be encouraged to share resources, program, publicity, outreach and craft ideas, and will receive updates from MHLS Youth Services Department. This group meets three times a year at Palenville. Job involves sorting library materials, unloading cargo vans, and being able to lift 50 pounds. MHLS recommends that the minimum starting salary of a full or part-time librarian with an MLS degree be at least equal to that of a teacher with a master's degree in the same community.
