MHLS Announcements
Just Add "2": MHLS has a new phone system - beginning this week when you call in you will need to put a "2" in front of each staff person's phone extension.

So for all of you that have memorized Laurie's extension (21) it is now 221. An updated list of all staff extensions is included with this week's Bulletin and is available online at http://midhudson.org/contacts/staff.htm

The Tech Hotline remains the same: 845.471.3440.

Please report any problems you experience when calling in to Doris at x210.

2008 "Vote Round up" will be in next week's Bulletin.

2008 Incentive Grant checks: Please submit all claims you have under the 2008 Incentive Grant Program before Saturday, November 15th. Libraries that applied for the NYLA grant will need to submit proof of attendance in order for the money to be distributed in the next check. Questions may be directed to Doris Formby by phone (x210) or
e-mail dformby@midhudson.org.

Resource Sharing & Millennium
Just a reminder that staff in member libraries are the eyes and ears in the catalog. If you spot discrepancies - misspellings, items linked to the wrong bib record, especially the wrong material format - call Karen (x253) or Kit (x252) and let them know so they can fix it. Like Ranganathan said - for every reader his [or her] book, for every book a reader; if books and readers can't find each other we're not doing our job! Thanks for your help, your patrons will appreciate it!

Please remember to write legibly on the delivery slips! MHLS staff sorts - literally - THOUSANDS of items a week. When we can't read what you've written or you've abbreviated library names that could be construed in multiple ways it really slows things up. Help us help your patrons get their stuff!
[Please also take the time to write clearly on your ILL requests!]

Marketing, Advocacy & Funding
November is Native American Heritage Month and thanks to Raymundo Rodriguez-Jackson, a Matouac-Taino and clerk at Elting Library in New Paltz, we have a spin on the ALA READ posters. Raymundo translated the word *read* into many of the Native American languages found in the Northeast and Deborah Begley, MHLS Print Department, has created a wonderful poster incorporating the words. Deb has made the 8 1/2 x 11 posters available as jpg files, both color and B&W, which can be found on the MHLS youth services site at http://midhudson.org/department/youth/main.htm.
In addition you may purchase a colored 11 x 17 poster from MHLS Print Dept. for $1.50. Contact Deb at dbegley@midhudson.org. These posters can be used to highlight a display of Native American authors (adult, children's and teen) at your library. For further information about which authors to choose, see the lists on the site mentioned above.
