Contact - Say Hello

Ways to make contact with a new group of people:

  • Network. If you know someone in your target audience, begin networking through them to speak with someone knowledgeable. If you don't know anyone, perhaps a friend or board member does and can lay the groundwork for you.
  • Cold Call. Call someone who holds a leadership position. Explain that the library is doing some community outreach and you wanted to see how you might:
    • support their efforts
    • identify areas for collaboration
    • inform them of new resources they can access conveniently online
  • Attend events. If you are trying to target car enthusiasts, go to a car show and interact. If it is professional group, attend one of their meetings etc.
  • Invite them to the library.

Have you found a unique way to connect with a group in your community? We're curious. Tell us about it.

This toolkit was created on behalf of the 2007-2008 Building Your Base (BYB) project. BYB is funded by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds,
