General
Info:
- Directions for desktop access
to NOVEL databases for in-library use only. Providing remote access through
your website following these directions violates the license agreement. Remote
access to these databases is provided by MHLS using the HomeAccess link.
- In the following directions, MHLS
member libraries will need their unique Library URL
and Library Password
assigned by NOVEL in order to complete the desktop links. Contact madvocate@midhudson.org
for this information.
- Think about
the name you want to give to each icon. Decide on a term that is useful for
your patrons.
- Directions are written to create
the icons using Internet Explorer.
- Individual Library Usage Statistics:
The statistics for NOVEL Databases usage through HomeAccess are tracked by
MHLS. Our statistics show overall, but not library specific, use. Once you
have icons on your desktop for in-house access to these databases, and are
not going through HomeAccess, your in-house use will not be reflected in the
statistics tracked by MHLS. However, you will be able to get in-house usage
statistics on the Gale and EBSCO NOVEL databases directly, by requesting them
through the NOVEL Databases Help Desk at (877) 277-0250:
- Provide the e-mail address
of the person to whom the statistics should be sent.
- State in which format you
would like to receive the usage statistics: comma-separated values or
ASCII. (NOTE: Comma-separated values would be your best
choice if you simply wish to print the statistics as they appear on your
computer screen. ASCII would be your best choice if you wish to import
the data into a spreadsheet or database application, such as Excel or
Access.)
