MHLS Interlibrary
Loan Department |
The MHLS Interlibrary Loan Department is responsible for helping member library staff fill patron requests for items that are not in Millennium or SEAL. They also help member library staff borrow MHLS materials from the Professional Collection.
Filling Patron Requests

- When a MHLS library receives a request from a patron for material it does not own, library staff first checks the local and regional databases (i.e. Millennium / SEAL). Other catalogs are also available for searching.
- Note: If a journal title in not available in Millennium, please also check the electronic journals before sending in a request.
- If the material is not in Millennium or SEAL, the library sends a request to the MHLS ILL Department by e-mail to ill@midhudson.org or through paper ALA ILL Forms (print an ILL form in .pdf or in Word so you can type in your entries).
- Policies for Interlibrary Loan
As per the MHLS Directors Association, as of 10/1/11 the MHLS ILL Department cannot accept requests for any item readily available for under $25.
- As per the MHLS Directors Association, as of 1/1/09 the MHLS ILL Department cannot accept requests for popular, readily available DVDs and music CDS.

- If you receive an ALA request form from a library outside of the MHLS or Seal
Membership you can either ship the item at your own expense or contact the
requesting agency and ask that the request be placed as an OCLC request, which
will be processed by the MHLS ILL Department.
