2000 Census Money
When the 2000 Census was completed the increase in population in the Mid-Hudson region should have resulted in a $71,000 increase in state aid for the Mid-Hudson Library System according to the legislation that regulates library funding in New York State.
Not until 2006 did public library systems receive their 2000 Census adjustment.
The 2007 budget is now being written and we need to let legislators know how important it is to retain the 2000 Census Money in the next budget.
NY's library systems have already lost out on hundreds of thousands of dollars that should have rightfully been spent on the communities of New York.
MHLS Census Money Losses: $71,000 x 5 years = $355,000
