Dear Sir or Madam:

The  (name of library) Public Library is excited to be hosting its annual family summer reading program.  This year’s theme is “ (insert theme),” and it will run from (date) through (date). The goal of this program is to foster a lifelong love of reading and to encourage library use.  Additionally, the program provides activities for young people and their families.  Research shows that young people who do voluntary free reading over the summer return to school in the fall ready to progress to the next step in their language development. This is both a positive reinforcement for students as well as a cost savings for the school district and thus the local taxpayers.

In order to make summer reading more attractive to our participants, we are asking local businesses and organizations to add their support by donating prizes (merchandise, gift certificates, free passes, coupons, stickers, etc.) to be used as incentives at the (name of library) Library.  Any item or contribution you could make to encourage participation would be greatly appreciated.  In addition, to recognize your generosity, donors will be acknowledged for their support in our summer reading promotional materials.
