There are no short answers to these questions because of the many variables involved, from the library's need to the community's demographics, to the prior commitments and gifts, to the goals, to mention but a few. And that doesn't even begin to address the many forms that private giving can take, for tax and other benefits.

The bottom line is not digits, separated by commas, but people, linked by a common care for the library and its essential role in our democratic society.

Reading leads to knowledge which leads to critical thinking, and action on behalf of our country and its institutions. Libraries are in the center of this picture because they provide free access to that information. Let it continue with our help.
