PART I: ASSESSMENT [Download and complete Part 1 of the template]

Strengths
Weaknesses

Internal

  • Identify the people you have that could help to run your campaign.

External

  • List the reasons people would support you.
  • Identify allies in the community who would likely support your cause. (business/community leaders, town board members, board members of community organizations etc.)

Conclusions: What do these strengths mean for your library's initiative? What opportunities do they present?

Competition
Determine if it is the right time to hold your vote:
  • Did your town just do a reassessment? If so, the community might be less likely to support you because of their recent increase in taxes.
  • What other votes/referendums are taking place at the same time as your vote? Are they likely to threaten the success of yours? (ex. school district vote)
  • What town agencies or organizations compete for similar funding?

Opposition

  • Who might be likely to oppose your vote? (Ex. Anti-tax people, people on a fixed-income, fire department, etc.)
  • List the reasons people would vote against you.
  • What is behind their "vote no" message?

Conclusions: Identify ways you will manage this opposition. What are some proactive measures you can take?
