Request a book with your library card….from home
New service allows library cardholders to reserve titles from home for later pick-up
(Poughkeepsie, NY) – Your library
card just got more powerful. The public libraries in
the Mid-Hudson Library System have turned on “Request a Title.”
If you are a
resident of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Putnam or Ulster county and have a
valid
library card and Internet access, you can locate library materials from your
home, office
or school and once you find the title you want, reserve it online for pick-up
later at a
public library of your choosing. By going to their public library’s homepage,
cardholders
simply search the library catalog, enter their library card number and their
personal
password, and Request a Title.
“We’re giving our cardholder’s the power to select a title, place a reserve, and
then choose the library where they can pick-up the item,” said Bonny Corrado, Director
of the Tivoli Free Library. “Inside the library or out, cardholders have the ability to
Request a Title. And with access in the library and from home or school or office, it just
can’t get more convenient than this.”
Through functionality of software from the Library Division of Geac, a
Massachusetts-based library software provider, the Mid-Hudson Library System offers
cardholders access to the books, videos, CDs, and other library materials housed in any
one of the 65 public libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System service area.
Cardholders
can also check if they have items overdue at the library, check on titles
they have placed on reserve, and view their account information. Screen displays
can
be printed for future reference.
The Request
a Title service is the second at-home library service available to
area cardholders. Late last year HomeAccess was made available. HomeAccess allows
library cardholders to access their public library’s Internet reference services
from
home, school or office. Go to your library’s homepage, click on the HomeAccess
logo,
enter your library card number and you have access to thousands of newspaper
and
magazine articles that can be viewed on the screen, printed, or e-mailed.
Request a Title service is available to public library cardholders served by the
Mid-Hudson Library System. If you’re a resident of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene,
Putnam or Ulster counties, visit your local library to sign up for your library card. If you
already have a library card, log on to your public library’s home page (list attached) and
Request a Title!
