The Outreach Advisory Committee applauds
your outreach into the community and offers this list of suggestions:
- Reach out to groups that are using
your community room, address them mentioning programs / services available
at the library.
- Create displays in the library,
or other public areas in the community, to reach target groups (example: for
visually impaired readers would include large print, audio books, NYS Talking
Book availability, info about any assistive devices the library has such as
a magnified screen)
- Send your program flyers or newsletters
to community agencies.
- Partnering with other agencies
may be the best way to reach a target population.
- Demo the Online Public Access
Catalog (OPAC) to community agencies.
- Support activity in the community
by your library staff, as the library benefits from these contacts.
- Feed information to newspaper
columns that are sponsored by community groups, letting them know what libraries
have to support their target group. (Example: a column by the Office of the
Aging could be an excellent vehicle for information and publicity of resources
at the library for the aging).
