Summer Reading Program
Community Partners |
Here are possible community partners you should consider when planning summer reading programs (srp). Some will help by accepting posters and press releases; others will give you monetary or gift donations; still others might share space for programs or co-sponsor performers and programs with the library.
- Daycares, nursery schools (posters, handouts about srp for parents)
- Businesses
- Ask for monetary contributions for supplies, gift certificates for prizes, place to display posters & handouts
- Put thank you poster in library, thanking all businesses that supported srp
- Write to local paper thanking businesses for support
- Local youth recreation programs
- Bring kids to library or take library program to rec site
- Bring books to rec site for kids to use on-site or borrow
- Perform skits at rec site which kids at library have practiced
- Newspapers (especially locals)
- Radio & public access TV
- Schools
- Ask principal to put short message about srp in spring school newsletter
- Contact Taconic PTA to put message in their newsletter
- Partner to present performer at assembly
- Make presentations to classrooms/PTA groups; use script on MHLS site
- Offer to help update/create a generic summer reading list
- Send list of children who participated in library's srp to classroom teachers & librarians in fall; some schools may announce names on morning messages
- Ask school to display work created by kids over summer
