    A national database of literacy programs available via the website and the National Institute for Literacy's toll-free number (1-800-228-8813). Use the database to search for specific types of literacy related programs in your local area and receive a map and directions.

  • Mohawk Valley Library Association - Learn English on the Internet
    Useful sites for adult learners, tutors, educators, and program coordinators of Basic English Education and English as a Second Language.

Columbia/Greene Counties:

  • Questar III - ESL/ESOL Classes
    Offers classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), as well as, other programs such as: GED, GRASP (Giving Rural Adults a Study Program), computer literacy etc. For information on ESOL classes in Columbia or Greene Counties call: Questar III Adult/Continuing Education Dept. - 518-828-0675 or Continuing Education Office for Greene County - 518-943-9434.

Dutchess County

Putnam County

  • Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES
    Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Adult Literacy Dept. offers a series of free GED and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. For information on GED or ESOL classes in Putnam County call: Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Adult Literacy Dept.: 914-248-2416

  • Literacy Volunteers America - Putnam (Mahopac Library)
    A non-profit agency which offers one-to-one tutoring in Basic Literacy to (primarily) adults reading at or below the fifth grade level; and tutoring and English conversation classes to adult ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) students. Program for Putnam County operates out of the Mahopac Library.

Ulster County

  • Ulster BOCES - ESL Classes (PDF file)
    Offers a variety of literacy related classes including GED, ESL, home study programs such as GRASP, Another Page, Math Basics, and Cross Café. For information on ESL Classes offered through Ulster BOCES call: Literacy Coordinator at 845-331- 0902

  • Ulster Literacy Association, Inc.
    Provide free, individualized instruction for adults by professionally trained volunteers in speaking, reading, and writing English.
