Tax Cap Announcement

Property tax levy growth for libraries that a) have had a public vote on their tax levy and b) have a January – December fiscal year will be capped at 1.84% for fiscal year 2018. For libraries with a June-July fiscal year, the figure will be released in mid-September…

Read to Read in MHLS!

Congratulations to…

  • Mountain Top Library
  • NorthEast-Millerton Library
  • Patterson Library
  • Plattekill Public Library
  • Poughkeepsie Public Library District

Each of these libraries will receive $800 from MHLS thanks to funds from the New York State Library’s Family Literacy Library Services grant program. Funds will be used to purchase early literacy materials to support the provision of early literacy programs in their library as part of their participation in the 2016-2017 MHLS Early Literacy Cohort Project. In addition, these libraries each received over $500 of professional materials as well as training in all of the elements of the Ready to Read at New York Libraries: Early Childhood Public Library Staff Development Program.

MHLS Early Literacy efforts focus on training for member library staff in support of making their library a vital community partner and early learning hub in their community.

Mini-Grant Deadline: August 11

MHLS Outreach Mini Grant Program 2017: Applications due August 11: NYS Outreach Categorical Aid funds, received from the NYS Library Division of Library Development, will be used to fund mini-grants of up to $2,000 per member library to develop programs and services to attract and connect to outreach target populations and form relevant community partnerships at the local level. Senate Grants Announced!

The end of the New York State legislative session brought good news for MHLS member libraries. The Senate passed a bill authorizing Special Legislative Grants (also known as Bullet Aid) to member libraries totaling $390,000! Sierra Upgrade

Sierra Release upgrade to 3.1 was successfully completed on June 29th, 2017.
Here’s what the upgrade addressed:
  • Web Management Reports no longer require Java!
  • Performance improvements for exporting review files especially for databases with high numbers of linked records.
  • Performance improvements for exporting records from Data Exchange especially for databases with high numbers of linked records
  • Performance improvements for keyword searching in Encore especially for databases with high numbers of linked records
  • New Sierra Holdshelf architecture: Provides increased stability and data integrity.
  • Create Lists supports searching for items by hold On Holdshelf and Pickup By dates. You will see two new fields to select under the holds tab.
  • The maximum number of entries for the Branches Table has been increased from 3,600 to 10,000.
