Beekman Library

Event name: The Great Give Back -Pajama Program

Event description: Help sort donated books and pajama set for the Great Give Back. We will be organizing donations for distribution to local charities. Each bag will contain a book and pajamas that are matched for a specific age, teen, toddler, pre-schooler, etc. All ages are welcome to attend.

Event name: Food For Fines

Event description: We’ll be collecting non-perishable goods for the Philipstown Food Pantry starting Saturday, October 19th and running through Friday, November 22nd for a donation ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday! Drop off shelf-stable foods, paper goods, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies, at the Library anytime during this period and get $1 off any library fines for each item you donate!

Highland Public Library

Event name: Clothing Swap & Winter Coat Donation

Event description: Join us for a Clothing Swap and winter coat drive! During the week of October 14th, people are welcome to drop off clean, quality clothing and winter coats in good shape. On Saturday, October 19th from 11-3 pm our meeting room will be open for people to browse through the clothes and pick up a gently used winter jacket if needed. All are welcome to attend. All donations will receive a reduction in library fines up to $10 as a thank you!

Howland Public Library (Beacon)

Event name: Book Drive for Incarcerated People in the Hudson Valley

Event description: The Howland Public Library in Beacon will be holding a book drive for incarcerated people in the Hudson Valley. Drop off new and gently used books to be donated and distributed to those in need through the Mid-Hudson Library System. The Library is requesting recent popular adult fiction and adult and YA graphic novels. The library is especially hoping to receive donations of graphic novels as these books are in high demand. Paperbacks preferred. Donors can drop off books inside the library after 12pm any day the library is open from October 12th- November 1st. Event name: The Great Give Back

Event description: We will be collecting socks, microwavable bowls, can openers, deodorant, soap, shampoo, tampons, toothbrushes, toothpaste & wipes for the homeless in Greene County.

Hyde Park Free Library

Event name: The Great Give Back Community Event

Event description: Hyde Park Library will be collecting pet food, toys, and supplies for the DCSPCA. The event will feature a presentation by Humane Law Enforcement Officer Brian Levy, followed by a local artist providing a hands-on demonstration on preparing a rock sculpture garden at the library. (We will also be accepting donations for the SPCA throughout the month of October.)

Event name: The Project Linus Knitting Club

Event description: The Project Linus Knitting Club meets weekly to knit blankets together.  These blankets are donated to sick children at various local hospitals and others in need.  You can join this group anytime, just bring your knitting needles and yarn.

Event name: The Great Give Back

Event description: This year, we are participating in The Great Give Back, a chance for public libraries to rally their communities to help each other! We’re looking for teen volunteers to help us assemble care packages for soldiers overseas to make their holidays a little brighter. Teens can earn volunteer hours and know that they helped make the world a better place! Come to our first meeting in September to learn more, and then put packages together on October 19th!

Event name: The Great Give Back: United for the Troops Collection

Event description: Mahopac Public Library is partnering with United for the Troops to bring a little comfort to our service men and women overseas. The Library will be collecting comfort items during the week of October 13th. No glass or aerosol containers, please! On October 19th, make a card for our troops overseas. All materials will be provided.

Event name: Food Drive

Event description: Drop off at the Mountain Top Library in Tannersville any canned food, cereals, or paper goods to donate to the Local Food Pantry located at the Kaaterskill United Methodist Church. For every item donated you will receive a voucher for a FREE BOOK from our Friends of the Library On-going Book Sale!

Northeast-Millerton Library

Event name: The Great Give Back: Webutuck BackPack Program

Event description: This year, we will be collecting donations for the Webutuck Central School District’s BackPack Program, which helps meet the needs of hungry children during weekends, where they do not have access to free/reduced meal programs that schools offer. The program provides backpacks filled with shelf-stable, child-friendly food that can be easily prepared and consumed. Backpacks are packed by Webutuck staff and discreetly distributed on Friday afternoons to participating children. The actual day of The Great Give Back is October 19, but we will be collecting donations starting on October 1st. We will have an Amazon Wish List available for online shopping available from October 1st – October 31st. We are accepting the following items: Breakfast items: cereal, instant oatmeal, graham crackers, granola bars Entrees: macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly/jam, canned tuna fish, canned soup/stew Juice boxes (100% juice) Canned vegetables Snack foods: microwaveable popcorn, individual packages of cookies, crackers and puddings. Please be sure that all food items donated are not expired and that they are sealed.  Expired or open containers will not be accepted.

Event description: We will be working with local businesses in Olive NY to have a free Community dinner and ask that everyone bring boxed or canned food items for our local food pantries.

Event name: PawSafe Pet Adoption: Adopt a Puppy Day!

Event description: PawSafe Animal Adoption will be here with their rescue pets that are available for adoption. We are also doing a pet supply drive through October 19.

Event name: Great Give Back 2019

Event description: We will be participating in the Give Back with two opportunities – Operation Gratitude (cards and letters for new recruits in the Armed Forces) and Letters to the Elderly (cards and letters for people living in nursing homes). Everyone is encouraged to stop by between 10:00 and 1:00 to participate. At 1 pm we are hosting a free interactive music and modern poetry event with Mount Tremper Arts.

Pleasant Valley Library

Event name: The Great Give Back

Event description: The Pleasant Valley Library is participating in The Great Give Back! For the month of October, we will be collecting items for CARE of DC, a non-profit pet adoption agency. Check our website for a list of items. On Saturday, October 19th, we will be holding a pet adoption event at the library! CARE of DC will be bringing dogs and puppies who are in need of homes to the library. Representatives from P.A.N.T will also be at the library with cats that need homes and to answer questions about fostering cats and kittens. If you’re looking for a new family member, come to our event and give a dog or cat a good home. No registration is required for this event.

Event name: The Great Give Back/ Project do Something

Event description: We will be making the survival bracelets on Nov 5. Teens will be writing letters and making survival bracelets to donate to our Armed Forces overseas.

You can still bring in a can or boxed item to add to our Food Drive, which will be donated to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. Please bring up any food to the children or teen room.

Event name: Kids’ Halloween Costumes Swap!

Event description: Drop off clean, wearable children’s Halloween costumes 10 am – 12 pm on Oct 1 through Oct 12. Get a voucher for every costume you drop off. Event name: Volunteer Fair

Event description: The Roeliff Jansen Community Library will be hosting a volunteer fair, at which local organization will share information about the work they do and the volunteer opportunities that are available. This is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the organizations in their community and how they can become more engaged in their community by volunteering and giving back.

Event name: Warm Hands, Warm Head, Warm Heart: Winter Accessory Drive

Event description: The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library joins forces with libraries across New York for the Great Give Back. On Saturday, October 19, your Milton Library launches a drive to warm up winter for those in need. Please donate new (only) hats, and clean and new/gently-used gloves and scarves. The donations will be given to a local Ulster County organization for distribution. For those patrons interested in learning to crochet or knit caps, the library hosts a class with local library fan, Sarah Cohen.

Event description: Ryan’s Case for Smiles provides pillowcases to children in local hospitals and other facilities to give them and their families an emotional boost while dealing with their illness. Participants can cut, sew, or iron to help create pillowcases.
