How do you cancel an ILL request?
How do OCLC items ordered by the MHLS ILL Department get to my library?
- The item will be sent by the MHLS ILL Department to the MHLS member library in the delivery.
What to do if there are issues with the included barcode?
- Contact MHLS ILL (ill@midhudson.org or x244)
- Note: The barcode that comes with the ILL item does not arrive to your library already attached to the ILL item, the barcode is attached to the ILL item as part of the Receiving Process
How can an OCLC item ordered by the MHLS ILL Department get renewed?
- Items brought in through OCLC cannot be renewed by library staff or patrons. If your patron needs an extension, please contact ill@midhudson.org who can request an extension from the supplying library.
What happens if there is a lending charge for an ILL item?
- The owning library will send a bill for the lending fee to Mid-Hudson
- When this bill will be sent varies wildly from library to library, some send the bill with the ILL item itself others will send the bill months later.
- Mid-Hudson will pay the owning library directly so that we can remain in good standing with the libraries we borrow from
- Mid-Hudson will send an invoice to your library for the cost. MHLS will not incur the cost of the loan.
- Currently due to how it has to be coded in the computer the invoice will say that it is for a “Lost or Damaged Book” even though it is for a lending charge.
- How you choose to or to not pursue acquiring payment from your patron is up to the individual library.
How do I return OCLC items ordered by the MHLS ILL Department?
- Send it in the delivery to MHLS ILL using:
- Transit slip printed from Sierra after checking in the item.
- Turning around the MHLS barcode that was included with the item. It will say either “Return to MHLS ILL DEPT” or “MHLS Staff”.
- Routing slip
What happens if a patron fails to return an ILL item?
- MHLS ILL will send an email when the item becomes overdue.
- The owning library will send a bill for the replacement cost of the item to Mid-Hudson.
- How long it takes for an item to go from being overdue to the library sending a bill depends on the library and how they handle this.
- MHLS ILL will send an email to the email provided in the request to let you know that we have received the bill.
- Sometimes when presented with the replacement cost for the item patron’s wills suddenly return the item. Owning libraries will often waive the bill if the item is returned, though this is not guaranteed.
- If the item is still not returned, Mid-Hudson will pay the owning library directly so that we can remain in good standing with the libraries we borrow from.
- Mid-Hudson will send an invoice to your library for the cost. MHLS will not incur the cost of the loan.
- How you choose to or to not pursue acquiring payment from your patron is up to the individual library.
