Sierra Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is currently used for placing holds that are Not available within the Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS) or SEAL (SouthEastern Access to Libraries). The holds will be requested in OCLC Worldshare by MHLS staff. Titles available in MHLS should be ordered internally with Sierra Holds, and items available in SEAL should be ordered by the member library through SEAL.
Policy
MHLS will not place ILL requests if any of the following elements are true. MHLS ILL staff will notify the member library’s designated staff if this is the case.

- A circulating copy can be borrowed within the MHLS library system or through the SEAL catalog.

- The item is not available through a participating member of the Empire Delivery system

- The item is not available through a participating member of the Empire Delivery system

- If unavailable through Empire Delivery and a comparable new edition can be purchased on Amazon for less than $25, the average cost of an ILL transaction at book rates for shipping.
Before submitting an OCLC ILL request to MHLS:

- Member library staff must check the Mid-Hudson Library System and SEAL catalogs. If a circulating copy can be borrowed from either of those collections, MHLS will not place an OCLC request.
