The MHLS Directors Association has prioritized advocacy for equitable access and pricing to digital books. To this end, we have invited Dr. Alan S. Inouye, Senior Director of Public Policy & Government Relations for the American Library Association to brief the MHLS Community on:

  • Recent developments in libraries, publishing industry, legislatures, and the courts. Where are we today?
  • The bigger picture: Intersections with book banning/censorship and other library and policy interests
  • What are the likely directions and prospects for the near-term?
  • Thoughts on the long-term. What strategic options are available to us?

Speaker Bio: Alan S. Inouye is senior director of public policy & government relations for the American Library Association. Previously, he was a coordinator of the President’s Council of Advisors of Science and Technology, Executive Office of the President and a study director at the National Academy of Sciences. Alan completed his Ph.D. in library and information studies at the University of California at Berkeley. Early in his career, he was an engineer and manager in Silicon Valley.

Attendance at this event can be applied toward NYS Trustee Education requirements.
