Oaths of Office

New York State Public Officer’s Law requires all public library trustees (but not association library trustees) to take an oath of office within 30 days of beginning their term of office. If a public library trustee does not properly complete and file an oath of office, the trustee’s position may be deemed vacant. Take Your Child to the Library Day

Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCLD), a grassroots national initiative, encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. TYCLD raises community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child, and promotes valuable free library services and programs for children and families. Officially held on the first Saturday in February, local TYCLD celebrations may take place on any date(s) in February that suit the schedule and community of participating libraries. Holiday Schedule

MHLS will be closed on Monday, December 26th and Monday, January 2nd. There will be no deliveries. Technology staff will be available via the MHLS ticket system (techsupport@midhudson.org) from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM to support system-wide Sierra Encore problems only. During these hours, tech support staff will be checking the ticket system periodically each hour and will address system-wide Innovative issues, sending tickets as necessary to Innovative, and posting to MHLS lists. Please note, phone and general issue support will not be available during this time.

Build a Better World

It may be chilly outside but the 2017 Summer Reading Program manuals are now available! They have gone digital and are available online only. All member library staff involved with your library’s Summer Reading Program now have online access to all four manuals: Children, Early Literacy, Teen & Adult. The manuals include clip art to go along with the 2017 theme: Build a Better World! Login information was sent via the MHLS Alerts list to all member library directors.

At their board meeting on December 10th the MHLS Board of Trustees adopted the “MHLS Guiding Principles for Sustainable Buildings” to help govern choices made about improvements and renovation of MHLS facilities.

Farewell to Regina & Myrna…

At their meeting on Saturday, December 10th the MHLS Board of Trustees passed Resolutions recognizing retiring Board members, Regina Morini and Myrna Sameth for their outstanding service on the MHLS Board of Trustees.

Vote Roundup

Voters of the mid-Hudson Valley said “Yes!” at the polls for public library funding in 2016.

Twenty-eight communities voted on tax levies for their public libraries in the MHLS region and 96% of those libraries won at the polls!

Weeding out your magazines? Weeding paperbacks that would be of interest to men? Our correctional facility libraries would love to receive these. If you bring them to a MHLS meeting or workshop (please do not use the delivery for donations) we would be pleased to pass them on to the correctional libraries. Thank you in advance for giving your materials a second life and for helping to contribute to the literacy, information seeking and recreational reading of many people.
