The Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS) Board of Trustees has appointed Rebekkah Smith Aldrich as the new MHLS Executive Director. Rebekkah has worked for MHLS for over twenty years in a variety of roles, most recently as the Coordinator for Library Sustainability. Over the course of her career she has demonstrated her ability as a future focused library leader dedicated to helping communities thrive through public library service. As part of a coordinated statewide effort, the New York State Library and its partner organizations are asking library directors to participate in the Opioid Overdose Prevention Measures in Public Libraries Survey. The Woodstock Library’s 87th Annual Library Fair was the first Zero Waste library event in our region. Woodstock Library brought in Zero to Go, a zero waste management company that focuses on composting and recycling to reduce the amount of trash that is typically generated at big events.
Celebrating its fourteenth year the Mid-Hudson Battle of the Books program brings together kids in grades 6th through 12th to display their knowledge through a literary trivia contest.
Twenty five member libraries have spent the summer working with teams of middle and high school students to prepare them for the end of program regional competitions. Sierra is scheduled to be upgraded to version 4.0 on August 14th. This is a significant release, including new primary data tables. There will also be a minor upgrade to Encore, our online catalog, scheduled for August 16th. This upgrade will correct an issue that currently returns patrons to the main patron screen after editing their holds, rather than back to the holds menu. More details about both upgrades will be sent via the MHLS Notices Email List. PLEASE NOTE: The Sierra offline client must be installed before 8/14. The New York State Library recently issued an important reminder that Public Officer’s Law §10 requires all public library trustees (but not association library trustees) to take an oath of office within 30 days of beginning their term of office. Click here for more information.
