The adjustments to NYS Open Meetings Law to allow for online meetings have been extended until May 19th, 2021 by Executive Order 202.102. There were no alterations to the provisions that allow for online open meetings, meetings still need to be accessible to the public, recorded and transcribed.

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) has implemented changes to the application certification process, making it easier for individuals with reading disabilities to apply for Talking Book and Braille Library service. Now, librarians, social workers, school psychologists, counselors, reading specialists, speech pathologists, and educators may certify the eligibility of applicants
Please continue to advocate for the Build America’s Libraries Act, if you haven’t already! There is a lot of positivity around this bill, and we have learned it could be used as matching funds for the State Aid for Library Construction Program grants.
Beginning Wednesday, March 17th, library workers in association and public libraries are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in New York State. Library workers are advised to bring a paystub and letter from their employer along with valid ID to their appointments. A sample employer letter has been provided to all directors via the MHLS-Notice List.
At the DA meeting in February member library directors voted to approve new procedures for checking in items with missing parts. This change was recommended by the Resource Sharing Advisory Committee after fielding many concerns about the procedures we were previously following. The new procedure was developed and has been tested by the committee members.
