Improved Discovery

newimproved MHLS implemented Encore Release 4.5 with new features that strengthen discovery capabilities across local collections and digital content:

  • Patron Account for Encore Mobile
    A native “My Account” in the Encore Mobile application offers a new view of patron features patrons can access without ever leaving the Encore mobile interface. This includes checkouts, holds, fines/fees, programs, preferred searches, reading history, and customized patron lists;
  • Advanced Search
    An improved user interface for the Advanced Search page ensures there is a better understanding of the data limits and expanders that apply to search results; and
  • Genre Facet
    Allows MHLS to add a genre facet in addition to the local facets currently available at that location.

More Checkouts Now Allowed in OverDrive!

digitalThe MHLS Directors Association voted to increase the number of OverDrive holds that patrons can place, and the number of OverDrive items that can be checked out, to 10 each. The vendor has implemented this change and the limit for the number of items borrowed or held has been updated to 10 (from the original 3) at this time.

Our Speakers
Lisa-Wemett Lisa C. Wemett, MSLS, is Past President of the Friends of Libraries Section of the New York Library Association. After more than 30 years working in public libraries, Lisa retired in 2009 from the Webster Public Library, located in a suburb of Rochester, where she was the assistant director for thirteen years. For 9½ years, Lisa was staff advisor to the Friends of WPL, helping the organization grow their membership numbers substantially and securing their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS.

Terry Mulee is Second Vice President of the Friends of Libraries Section, promoting the organization to current and potential members. FLS/NYLA has grown 60% during her tenure over the past four years. Terry chairs the Communications Committee, serving as editor of the FLS newsletter and web liaison to maintain the FLS webpage. At NYLA’s annual conference she coordinates the Section’s booth at the trade show encouraging all NYLA members to join FLS.

Courtesy Notice Implementation Delayed

updateCORRECTED ANNOUNCEMENT: The implementation of Courtesy Notices, as reported in this Bulletin on March 29, has been delayed. Following the last III Sierra software upgrade, MHLS found that Courtesy Notices are not respecting patron notice preferences. The MHLS Resource Sharing Advisory Committee will review the Courtesy Notices function.
